The New House

So, we put in an offer on the new house yesterday and it was accepted.

Now we have to get all the inspections done then we should be closing by June 30. We are really excited. The new hose is about 2 times the size of our current one and we really need the space. It also has an awesome swimming pool with a slide and diving board. It also comes with nearly 9 acres of wooded land surrounding the house. Finding that much land, that is pretty much flat, in Morgantown is a rarity. The current owner has made some hiking trails back through the woods, so I look forward to exploring the land. Who knows, maybe we can even have a Grateful Dads outing there. They are also leaving one of those big wooden play sets too. So my daughter will have a great play area.

Hello everyone. Long time, no blog, huh? Well, the weather is starting to improve, so that means I spend less time in front of "that damn computer" as my wife would say.

I have also been pretty wrapped up in following the soap opera like saga that is happening at WVU. So what time I have been at the computer has been spent reading up on the latest news an d gossip about that situation.

Another thing that has kept me busy as of late is getting our house ready to put on the market. Yep, looks like we may be moving soon. I don't want to jinx anything, but we may be putting an offer in on a new house Monday. It is only about 3 miles from our current home, but it is a step up and a perfect place to raise our daughter and any other kids that may come along. When it happens I will tell you a little more about the place. In the mean time, if anyone is planning to move to Morgantown soon, and would be interested in buying a home that is outside of city limits, but still only minutes from town let me know. It is a about 1800 (finished) sq. ft., three bedroom, two bath, split level home. We have one of the best views in the area. The sunset is gorgeous all year long. And there is no way that you will find better neighbors anywhere. We would also consider renting too.

Earlier this month, some friends and I had the first gathering of the Grateful Dads. G rateful Dads is a group that formed in California about 10 years ago to provide a chance for Fathers and their kids to get together with other Fathers and kids and enjoy the outdoors. What started as a group of seven dads getting together for a hike has grown to include chapters across the country. I found out about them last fall, and thought it sounded like a great idea. So this spring, my friend Sleek Pelt helped me get the word out to others and we are forming our own chapter. The first hike was a small group, only 3 dads and 4 kids, but I believe it will grow. We have not set a date for our next gathering, but it will probably be in late June. If anyone is interested in coming along, let me know and I will fill you in with the info.

Yesterday I took Miss T to the Metropolitan Theater hear in Morgantown to see the Davisson Brother Band. These guys are friends of mine, and since Miss T came along 19 months ago, I don't get the chance to go out to the smoky bars and see them any more. So when I heard they were playing at the Met I got pretty stoked. To top it off it was a benefit show for St Jude's Children's Hospital. Then, to make the night even more special, when I got there I found out that it was being broadcast on the radio on multiple stations all across WV and in parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

So, I load up the diaper bag and put Miss T in her backpack and head to the Met. I was a little nervous at first that it would be too loud for her 19 month old ears, but it actually wasn't that bad. Plus I took earplugs for her.

We ended up in the front row, and she danced all night long. She had everyone around her amazed at how she was dancing. She did not stop for the entire 1.5 hour show. I wish I had taken my camera, but I forgot it so there are no pictures

When we got home, I gave her a bath and then she fell asleep in about 5 minutes after we sat down

It is no secret that I am a wrestling fan. I usually TiVo the shows so I can watch them when it is best for me. Well it just so happens that I am just getting around to watch this Monday's episode of RAW.

From the start, they were hyping the fact that they were gonna have the three presidential candidates. My first reaction was they were gonna have actors portraying the candidates. Well I was right and wrong.

During our trip to DC last weekend, we went to Arlington National Cemetery with E's cousin (D) and her girlfriend (D). This is an amazing place. But that is not what this post is about.

As we were leaving, heading back to the METRO, we passed to people holding up signs and "protesting". From a distance, we couldn't tell what the signs said, and I got a little excited. The whole time we were there I was hoping to see some protesters. As we got closer I could make out what the sign said. It said "Thank God For Dead Soldiers".

Now I must tell you that I have struggled with myself about making this post. I am not sure that I feel comfortable even putting those words on my blog.

Anyway, it was all I could do not to punch them in the face. BTW this was two teenage girls holding these signs. There were several police officers around, and I am sure they are the only thing keeping these people from getting killed.

I had seen these people on the news before, but seeing them in person brought out a rage in me that I did not know I had. After we passed them, I was telling E, D, and D that they were from that church in Kansas who protested Sego and Heath Ledgers Funeral and all these other places. They were all confused on why they would say somthing about the soldiers. I told them I did not know for sure, but it all was based on a hatred of homosexuality (remember that we are with E's Cousin and HER GIRLFRIEND). At the time I could not remember the name of the church or its founder, but I have since remembered it is the Westboro Baptist Church and the leader is Fred Phelps.

Well tonight I decided to try and find out their logic that relates dead soldiers to gays. I came across this website. There is a page where they have made video's relating to all there signs including one that says "GOD SENT THE SHOOTER" referring to the VA Tech shooting among other things.

At this point, I puked in my mouth.

In my search, I also found a video of one of these Wacko's on Hannity and Colmes where she (the wacko) says there are less than 100 members of their church and about 80% of them are family members of Fred Phelps. I feel so bad for the poor kids of this family that are being brainwashed in to this shit. That has to be a form of Child Abuse.

Well....

Went to DC this past weekend. We left on Saturday and came back Tuesday night. I have never been to DC as a tourist. I was there a few times for work, but never got to see all the things that make DC what it is. Eventually Ill do a post with some pictures and more info about the trip.

On Wed., I woke up feeling like shit. I took my daughter to day care, then slept the rest of the day. I am pretty sure that it was the McDonalds that I ate at 10 PM the night before when we were on our way home.

The past two days have been spent cleaning out my garage and taking stuff to goodwill and our storage unit. The garage was BAD. Without going in to much detail, we have 3 cats who live in the garage because they piss in the floor. Well, they recently decided they have no use for a litter box at all. Yeah, the garage was BAD.

I have come to the realization that we eat out way too often. My wife and I both want to lose weight, but it is so hard to eat healthy when you eat out so much. And most of the time, the food is mediocre at best, and service in this town is going downhill fast. Last night we ate at Outback Steakhouse. Our server was very busy. So busy in fact that she could not find the time to remove the 4 empty beer bottles and 6 empty glasses at our table. But hey, at least she got us refills. Of course, most of the time it was a someone else bringing them to us. Our appetizer came quickly and it was very good. We had the seared Auhi Tuna. Good stuff. However, the main dish was very slow making it to our table, and by the time it got their, my medium rare steak and my wifes medium steak had absolutely no pink left. I think it got over cooked sitting under a heat lamp or something.

Here is a little tip for those of you who have never waited tables. If your plate comes out extremely hot, and you did not order some kind of fajitas that are supposed to come out sizziling, your food has either been nuked or it has sat under a heat lamp for a while.

Today we ate at Cracker Barrel, we had a bad experience the last time we went there, but this time everything was great.

After dinner we went to Sams Club and then to PetCo. We have decided to get a cat door so the cats can go outside. They have been declawed, so my wife has been weary of letting them out, but we are going to try it. We were also excited to find out that Sams now sells Size 6 Pampers diapers. Prior to this trip, the biggest we could find there were size 5. We bought 3 boxes just in case they don't get them in again.

About $500 later we left University Town Center and headed to High Street to go to the Dairy Queen. We ended up parking beside the Gilatto stand. It was raining and we did not want to get the girl out in the rain so we just ordered some Gilatto. It is very good, but too rich for my tastes. I would rather have had a plain vanilla cone from the DQ.

So thats my life for the past few days.

A few of you may have noticed that I left some SPAM like comments on your blogs. Sorry bout that, but I really want to spread the word about my friends blog, Reversing the Numbness. Music Lovers will really enjoy his weekly "Friday Music" Post. Go check it out, and tell em that money sent 'cha.

He has also started a new blog which is going to officially launch on Monday. It is called Picture West Virginia. This is a great idea, and you too can contribute to the site. Each week will have a theme and you can contribute a post relating to WV and that theme. For example, the first week will be " My Town". You can write somthing about your town, post pictures or what ever. The goal is to spread the word about Wild Wonderful West Virginia and to try to change the image of our state that some others may have.

Speaking of West Virginia, I had no idea that Jesse Johnson was running for President on the Green Party ticket. In case you don't know, Jesse Johnson is a West Virginian who was the Mountain Party's candidate for Governor in 2004. I think he also ran for Senate in 2006. Now I have a candidate I wont feel guilty voting for.

It is for this reason I voted for and endorse Chocolate Peanut Butter. I mean, Vanilla is not bad, but you have to assemble a whole team of support toppings such as bannanas, or strawberrys or even Chocolate and Peanuts!!!

But to be clear about this, I'm not really a fan of Chocolate Peanut Butter either. It has it's negative points, but the bottom line is, there is no way in Hell that I will vote for Vanilla. So I am not voting for Chocolate Peanut Butter, no, in fact I am voting AGAINST Vanilla!

My daughter has been a Wiggles fan since...well... birth. She sings the songs and dances (as well as an 18 month old can do. When the wife is working and I am trying to do something like cook dinner, those four wierdos from down under have been my best friend.

But I am sick of them now. I hear them in my sleep. Their songs are permanently stuck in my head. So I have been trying to get her to watch other programs. She seems to really like musical programs, and tends to get board during non-musical shows.

I recently discovered the Imagination Movers, and I really like them (they have an album called Juice Box Hero!!!), but I cant really find anything to download yet, so we have been Tivoing Sesame Street and she seems to like it so far.But I think she is afraid of some of the Monsters. Im not talking about the regular ones like Grover or Elmo or Oscar or Cookie Monster, but the ones that don't really have names and growl a lot. The last few times they have made an appearance, she starts whining and runs and grabs my leg.

Today, when this happened I rewound the show back to where they cam on and sat there with her telling her they were ok. We laughed and called them silly. Hopefully this helps.

Burrito Casserole

I saw this online a while back, but today I decided to just wing it. So it is pretty much my recipe, but I was inspired by another. Here is what I used:

6 Frozen Burritos
1 lb ground beef
1 can Campbell's Southwestern Pepper Jack Cheese Soup
some Sour Cream
1 can diced Green Chilies
1 can Something I found in the Mexican section of Krogers (It was it a can like the green chilies come in. Some sort of Salsa Casera)
2 cups of Kraft (hormone free) Mexican Cheese
Cumin
Garlic
Chili Powder
3 bottles Sierra Nevada ESB (Early Spring Beer)

I started by drinking a Sierra Nevada ESB. Then I browned the Ground Beef . I added some Cumin, garlic and Chili Poweder. I also poured about 1/2 a bottle of the ESB in to the pan with the beef.
Then I drank another ESB.
Then I laid out the frozen burritos in a baking dish. Covered them with the Ground Beef.

I mixed the Sour Cream, Chilies, the Soup and about 12/16 of the cheese and layered it over the Ground Beef and Burritos
Then toped it with the stuff from the Mexican Aisle and the rest of the Cheese then drank another ESB.

Bake it at 350 degrees for about 35-40 minutes, then top with Salsa, tomatoes, olives or what ever you want to.

I actually have not baked this as of the time I am writing this. I gotta wait a little bit so it won't be too cold when the wife gets home. Ill take a picture of the final product.

So, ummm, I was so hungry by the time this was done that I forgot to take a picture of the finished product so you will just have to take my word for it when I say it was pretty damn good. Next time I won't use as much ground beef though.

About 20 minutes outside of Morgantown, tucked away in the middle of nowhere there is a zoo. Its not on the grand scale of the Pittsburgh or Cincinnatti Zoos, but it is fun none the less.

I recently aquired a copy of The Wrestling Album which was released way back in like 1985. Listening to this has brought back a flood of memories form my childhood.

I have been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remeber. I can remeber going in the early 80's to East Bank High School gymnasium and watching Ox Baker wrestle. He is the only one that stands out from what is probably my earliest wrestiling memory. My friend Jon got his picture taken sitting on his lap. I remember Ox had a shiny bald head and a fu man chu type mustache . This was long before the days of WWE, WCW, NWO, or DX. It was even before Hulk Hogan became a household name.

In the mid 80's I was pretty much exclusivly an NWA fan. The WWF had just began its march to take wrasslin from a regional business to a global bussiness, and in WV we got weekly televised NWA events in the form of World Championship Wrestling which was broadcast on TBS and was fimled at the Omni in Atlanta.

The Four Horsemen, bad guys that everyone loved to hate, were the original "stable" of wrestlers. They led the way for later groups like the NWO and Degeneration X. The Nature Boy Ric Flair still had long flowing hair and would always find a way to win.In these days Tag Team's still ment somthing. There were the Road Warriors, The Rock -n- Roll Express, The Midnight Express, Magnum TA and Dusty Rhodes, The Russians Ivan and Nikita Koloff.

I used to spend Saturday Mornings in my Mom and Dad's bedroom watching wrestling while dropkicking and clotheslining their pillows. They had a king size bed that made the perfect ring. I don't remember how long wrestling was on in those days, but it seems like I would be in there all day long. Back then, the NWA would come to the Charleston Civic Center about once a month it seems like. I used to go see it a few times a year. Unlike today, the good guys and the bad guys had seperate entrances. You could also go and stand along the railing and try to shake their hands as they came to the ring. The good guy usually came out first, so we would go down and try to touch them first. After they passed we ran to the other side of the ring to yell and curse the bad guy as they came in.

One time after the match was over we went outside to try to meet some of the wrestlers as the left the building and we saw Road Warrior Animal, Paul Ellering, and Ole Anderson get in their car. We all ran and got in the car and my friends dad followed them for us. We followed them all the way to the old Bonanza Steakhouse in Kanawha City. My friends dad would not let us bother them while they ate, but he let us wait there untill the were done. When they came out they gave us all autographs. It was pretty sweet.

By the time I was in Jr High (around 1989-90) I lost interest in Wrestling for a few years. Then I found out Hulk Hogan had joined the NWA (it was actually WCW at this time, but I still refered to it as NWA). This got me interested again. I used to stay up at night thinking about how Ric Flair would kick Hogans ass, and now I might get the chance to see it. But to be honest, WCW sucked pretty bad in those days. All that changed with the NWO. Wrestling was finaly interesting again. Plus, it forced the WWF to improve its product so that it could compete with the new and improved WCW.

If you are a wrestling fan, then you know the rest of the story.

I feel that the WWE has been on a decline the last few years, but I still watch it. Mostly I Tivo it and FF through the shitty parts, which means I usually watch the 2 hour program in about 45 minutes.

Writing this post has been a fun trip down memory lane. It has taken me about 4 hours spread over 2 days to finish this post, and I could keep going for a long time. Each time I added a link, I would spend time checking out the site I was linking to. Wikipedia has a lot of wrestling info. I read about things I remember, some stuff I don't remember, and things that I thought happened differently. I hope you enjoy checking out these links as much as I did.

I recently discovered a wonderful part of the Internets. It is called Rapidshare. It is a wonderful file sharing site. You have the option of getting a premium account, or you can use a free account. Of course, membership has its privleges. You can upload files, and it will generate a link where the files can be downloaded. If you don't want to upload, you don't have to, you can still download.

The big difference between the paid account and free account is ease of downloading. With the free account there are a few hoops to jump through before you can get the file such has a CAPTCHA, and having to wait a certain amount of time between downloads. With the premium account, you have a download manager which allows you to "set it and forget it".

The files that are uploaded are limited to 100 MB each, so if you are say uploading a movie (one that is not copyrighted, of course) that is 800 MB, you will have to pack it into 100 MB RAR files. So that is where it benifits to have a preimum account. You can copy all the links into your DL Manager and it will take care of the rest. With the free account, you can only download 1 file at a time, and you are forced to wait between downloads. Sometimes it is only 45 seconds, other times it may be 45 minutes.

Also, rapidshare.com has no search engine. So how do you find the files? Well, it is actually pretty easy. There are search engines out there like this one. There are also blogs and message boards that have tons of rapidshare links. The more you look around, the more you will find.

I actually saw this last guy during my visit to NYC a few years back. We had just left the Improv. We had gotten "free" tickets to see the show that night, there was a 2 drink minimum, but they faild to mention that the drinks were $10 plus tip. This is pretty interesting. This guy "The Flashbulb" as he is known in the biz, has released his album on the bit torrent p2p networks. along with it he has attached the following message.

What I would like to tell you is that my record label understands that a large portion of people pirate music because it is easier than buying it. CDs scratch easily, most pay-per-download sites have poor quality and ****ty DRM protection, and vinyl is near impossible to find or ship without hassle.
In many cases I wonder why people buy CDs at all anymore. A few like the tangible artwork, some haven’t adapted to MP3s yet, but most do it because they have a profound love for music and want to support the artists making it. Kind of restores your faith in humanity for a moment eh?

I recently acquired a copy of the Adobe CS3 Master Collection. It includes pretty much all of Adobes products. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, etc. . There were a few of the programs, including Contribute, that I was not familiar with. Well I am testing out Contribute as we speak. It appears to be a program for easy updating of Websites and Blogs. I just fired it up for the first time about 2 minutes ago, and I am already typing new blog entry. So far all I have done is tell it what blog server I use (blogger.com) and gave it my username and password. It then told me I had established a connection to both of my blogs. I clicked the New button and It brought up my blog with some sort of text box where I am currently typing this. The screen is WYSIWYG. It looks just like my blog. I need to test how to add links... that was pretty easy.

Now how about a picture. Again, not too hard. Just gotta figure out how to do the horizontal alignment.

You can also add Tags, but it appears that they are going to be in the top of my post. I would rather them be at the bottom. Ok, figured that out.

Now if only I could figure out how to add labels. I can see how to add ones that I have already used, but not how to create new ones.

Anyone ever used this program?

Fried'logna Sammiches

Inspired by Jackie's post that was inspired by this post about West Virginia Round Steak, I got a late night craving so I found myself drawn to the kitchen searching the fridge for O-S-C-A-R.

Here we see the bologna just starting to fry. In the comments of the two previously mentioned posts, you must take action to prevent the meat from bubbling up in the middle, causing it to scorch in a ring where there is still contact with the skillet. There are a few methods you can use for this. Three of my favorites are (clockwise starting at the top) The Iron Cross, The Angel, and The Pacman. In this first photo, all the details have yet to appear, but you can see some of the cuts that were made

Here we see the meat product after it has been flipped. notice the lighter centers on each piece? Well, I guess there is no way to insure complete lack of bubbling. You can now see the details of each bubble prevention method a little better. The Iron Cross is pretty self explanatory. The Angel comes from the two wing like sections and the bottom section which is said to represent the dress of the Angel Ramiel, who is the female angel of joy. The Pacman, well we all know who Pacman is. At least those of us born before 1988 do anyway. Unfortunately, this particular Pacman got caught by eiter Inky, Blink , Pinky, or Clyde and ended up with a nick on his backside.

I must admit that I have never tried the Sriracha Sauce on my Fried'logna sammiches before, I usually stick with just cheese and a little mustard, but the stuff is fantastic so I decided what the hell.

Because I am trying to eat better, I decided to make two sammiches instead of three to cut back on the carbs. So I put two pieces of WVRS on one set of bread. Hear you can see the finished results.

By the way did I mention it was late at night when this happened. 2:15 AM to be exact. So all of you normal humans who are in bed at a decent hour can rest assured that someone, somewhere is out there eating fried lips and assholes so you don't have too.
